Excavation Gallery
Evolving Through Time

The gallery immerses visitors in the Ambaghat excavation site, contextualizing it within Vadnagar’s rich heritage and drawing attention to its unique aspects and findings. Through detailed drawings and images, visitors gain a foundational understanding of the site’s scope and significance.
A 3D film takes visitors on a virtual tour of the 17-meter-deep Ambaghat site, providing a realistic and engaging perspective of its intricate layers, historical structures, and artefacts. Suspended models of key built structures, accompanied by interactive screens, allow visitors to explore the life and activities surrounding these spaces, enriching their connection to the site’s history.
A 1:20 scale layered model of the entire excavation site serves as a central feature, helping visitors visualize the layout and key discoveries. Highlights include the 2,200-year-old Sharmishtha Lake, religious structures like stupas and temples built along the walls, the dimensions of the moat and ramparts, and intriguing lanes and streets.
An interactive installation allows visitors to experience the excavation process firsthand. By picking up replica tools and moving them in the air, visitors activate projections that demonstrate the tool’s use and the excavation process in real time, providing a hands-on appreciation for archaeological work.
To enhance the experience, visitors can engage with an excavating archaeologist to ask questions and gain deeper insights into the findings, techniques, and stories of the Ambaghat site.
